There is much to tell about all the seven regions
of Hungary and its over ten million population. Here are a few basic
points:
- HUNGARY is situated in Central Europe surrounded by seven
countries. Hungary’s borders, belonged to Hungary in the
past;
- The currency used is Hungarian Forint (HUF)Changing to Euro
around 2010;
- Hungarian time zone GMT + 1;
- The telephone code is 36;
- The climate is temperate continental;
- The Capital city is BUDAPEST "the Paris of Central Europe";
- The beautiful river Danube runs right through Budapest and
divides BUDA from PEST. The Danube today is as busy as ever.
There is so much to see and do in this cosmopolitan city. The
Turks and Romans left a very large, colourful and positive imprint.
Hungary is a free market economy and has been since 1990. The
economy is fast approaching European norms through the implementation
of rigorous financial targets, applied by the government. Inflation
is running at less than 10%. The general basic salary (at this
present time) is HUF 62,000 per month, or 250 Euro per month.
Its Parliament is a Democratic.
Hungary’s legal system is a rule of law based on Western
models.
Prime Minister is Ferenc Gyurcsany (since 29th Sept 2004 )
Chief of State is Laszlo Solyom (since 5th August 2005)
Some History
Napoleon wanted desperately to bring England to its knee’s
at the beginning of the 19th century, he formed blockades all
over Europe. Pepper was no where to be found.
Hungarian Peasants have always been considered to be clever
people with being close to nature and loving organic produce.
So they came up with the idea of drying the Red Paprika (capsicum)
grinding it to a powder. This is now symbolic of Hungarian cuisine.
